Pharmacist-Addiction Counselor
Billy graduated from Orangeburg High School in 1970. He received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1975 at the University of South Carolina. He is a Certified Addictions Counselor II and Registered Pharmacist. He has over 30 years experience in pharmacy and 20 years experience as an Addictions Counselor at W.J. McCord Adolescent Treatment in Orangeburg, SC. Billy also has been employed as a Floater Pharmacist and has over 30 years experience working with and researching the effects of various drugs of abuse. He has provided trainings throughout the state of South Carolina on the pharmacology of drugs of abuse, including Marijuana, Cocaine, Methamphetamine, Alcohol, Hallucinogens, and Opioids. These trainings have been attended by professionals from medical, law enforcement and counseling fields. These trainings focus on learning how these drugs work, what drugs do to the user, how to deal with the drug abuser, how drugs of abuse can affect prescription medications, a history of the drug itself, drug testing, related psychiatric problems and legal issues. Emphasis is placed on discussion of neurotransmitters, the brain and nervous system. A discussion of use, abuse, misuse, dependence, addiction and pseudo-addiction is also addressed.
